Monopoly pub crawl in London – the ultimate tourist historic London pub walk or tour

With so many people growing up with the fantastical Parker Brothers game Monopoly – and London the most tourist visited city in the world – we thought it time to fit this legendary board game around the fine historic pubs of Ye Olde London Town.

The hugely successful board game was invented in 1904 by a Quaker woman named Elizabeth J. Magie Phillips.  She started the game in the hope of being able to explain the single tax theory of Henry George (it was intended to illustrate the negative aspects of concentrating land in private monopolies).

Here’s a quirky fact about Monopoly from Wikipedia:

“In 1941, the British Secret Service had John Waddington Ltd., the licensed manufacturer of the game outside the U.S., create a special edition for World War II prisoners of war held by the Nazis. Hidden inside these games were maps, compasses, real money, and other objects useful for escaping. They were distributed to prisoners by secret service-created fake charity groups.”

Right, back to why we’re (you’re) here – pubs.  Where do they fit in. The best Monopoly pub crawl in London will list only the best pubs in the key areas on the board.  These include London’s greatest pubs near:

  • Old Kent Road
  • Fenchurch Street
  • Whitechapel Road
  • Liverpool Street
  • The Angel Islington
  • Pentonville Road
  • Kings Cross
  • Euston Road
  • Marylebone Station
  • Park Lane
  • Mayfair
  • Piccadilly
  • Pall Mall
  • Whitehall
  • Northumberland Avenue
  • Fleet Street
  • The Strand
  • Bow Street
  • Trafalgar Square
  • Leicester Square
  • Coventry Street
  • Regent Street
  • Vine Street
  • Marlborough Street
  • Bond Street
  • Oxford Street

As I type, Jonno is pounding the cobbled London streets finding the best London pubs on the path of the great Monopoly walk or tour around London.

Stay tuned, our Monopoly London pub crawl maps and guides will be available very very soon…

      Hi Karlie
Sorry it has taken a couple of day to get back to you, but we have been busy finding more pubs (hard work y’know!)

Wow the Monopoly board pub crawl – there are 26 streets on the board and trying to visit every one is pretty hard to achieve in one day! I know, I have tried with the help of a few mates and an old London bus! Anyway I have attached a list of pubs that we would visit if we were trying to do this route. Not all these pubs are on the streets shown on the board, so a bit of a cheat. But we feel that life is just too short to go to rubbish pubs!

Now if all this is a bit awe inspiring, you could try using our app to find your self some nice pubs. the app will take you on 40 pub crawls of 4 pubs each. Here is a link to itunes for it (only available for iPhone – iPad at the moment).

There is a lucky dip that will take you to pubs that we really like. Or you can pick an area and located pubs there.

Alternatively there are some historic walks on our site with a bit of history. We have just produced a Jack the Ripper walk in east London if that is your thing. It’s a pdf so can be downloaded to any phone or tablet.

What ever you do, have fun!

I am extremely disappointed. I bought your app as it was billed as monolpoloy version, but all I found was mini pub crawls I could find on time out. Can you supply a list of pubs that are still open to do the most faithful monolpoloy pub crawl possible
    Thank and best regards

      Hi Geoff,

I am sorry that you were disappointed with our app showing you 160 awesome London pubs in 40 great walking tours. I am sorry that you have downloaded the app thinking it was a Monopoly version. We have never released such a version and I can only assume that you mis-read our blog on the Monopoly crawl. I have re-read the blog just to make sure that we had not made a mistake.

But here at the London Pub Crawl Company, we don’t want you to be disappointed so I have attached a draft listing of the pubs that we would head for if we were doing a Monopoly pub crawl. We have created this list by areas so that each selection of our “liked” pubs could be visited in one night. As there are 26 streets in Monopoly we could not suggest that anyone attempt this in one hit! Now, not all of these pubs are on the actual street as some of them are a little rough and some streets are publess!

Please have this list with our compliments and if you decide to treat yourself by taking this extended tour, I would love to hear how you got along. We hope to get this list out in the summer so any feedback you have would be appreciated.

      Kindest regards
