Researching for my blogs, where I talk about only the best London pubs and walking tours, I quite often come across bizarre and interesting facts and stories. Many are not related to our site and so get dismissed.
But the other day I was talking with a friend about the war (I mentioned it once and think I got away with it.) He mentioned Winston Churchill’s most famous quote (after “we’ll fight them on the beaches” of course), with a woman who said:
“You sir, are drunk.” to which our Winnie replied;
“and madam, you are ugly, but in the morning I shall be sober.”
Which got me to thinking – what other great pub and beer related quotations have come out over the years. Well, here are a few that I quite liked:
Great beer and pub quotes to complement London’s best pubs
“Payday came and with it beer.” – Rudyard Kipling
“Beer makes you feel the way you ought to feel without beer.” – Henry Lawson (Australian Poet and Writer – and being Australian, he would know!)
“Beer. Now there’s a temporary solution.” – Homer (Simpson, not the Greek one)
“Give me a woman who loves beer and I will conquer the world.” – Kaiser Wilhelm (obviously his woman didn’t like beer all that much).
“Religions change; beer and wine remain.” – Hervey Allen (Historian, Poet, Author)
“He was a wise man who invented beer.” – Plato
“Give my people plenty of beer, good beer, and cheap beer, and you will have no revolution among them.” – Queen Victoria
